« On 17 October 2024, the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe marked the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on the forecourt of the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg.
During the ceremony, the young participants of the round table ‘By youth, with youth’, organised by the Standing Committee of the Conference of INGOs as part of its new youth strategy, shared their experience on the fight against poverty, emphasizing that every individual deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life and urging those in attendance to always look towards those who are most excluded and give them space. Prof. Aoife Nolan, President of the Council of Europe’s European Committee of Social Rights, reminded the young interveners of the vital role of the European Social Charter and stressed the importance of monitoring governments’ efforts to guarantee respect for social rights and to give everyone the opportunity a full life.
The Council of Europe Youth Department encouraged NGOs and particularly young people to engage with the youth sector in view to developing tools together for difficult to reach communities.
This annual event reflects the continuing commitment of the Council of Europe and its partners in the fight for a fairer and more equitable society. »
